Red Stag Safari

Safari on Exmoor in the comfort of a Land Rover Discovery 4 with a knowledgeable local Exmoor man as your guide. View the panoramic scenery; see the wildlife, including the Exmoor Ponies and Red Deer. All ages welcome

We will take you on a safari over Exmoor to show you the rugged coastline, the heather moors and the steeply sloping combes with ancient woodlands and fast flowing rivers. We will cross the Badgworthy Water at the beginning of the Doone valley and if are lucky we may see the shy and elusive Red Deer.

As we believe you should enjoy your safari in comfort we were the first operator to use the Land Rover Discovery which is more comfortable than the Land rover Defender used by most operators. Our Discovery4 has softer suspension giving a smoother ride.

There is more seating space per person with larger windows giving better visibility than a Defender. The Discovery has the legendary off road ability of a Land Rover combined with the comfort of a luxury car.

We only take small groups, compared to some operators, so our vehicle is not crowded. Each passenger will have an individual front facing comfortable seat with good leg room. We are fully licensed by West Somerset Council and insured.

Red Stag Safari is run by Andrew Turner who is Somerset born and bred. His Family have lived on Exmoor  for over 7 generations and for more than 200 years and used to farm. Andrew is the guide for the safaris. He will use his local knowledge and experience gained from a lifetime on Exmoor to ensure you have the best chance of seeing the wildlife including the Exmoor Ponies and Red Deer.

Andrew will take you to the best vantage points to enjoy the scenery. He will explain the geology and how the landscape was formed along with the history and customs of the moor. He will show you the Bronze Age settlements with cairns, barrows and standing stones and tell you about the Iron Age forts. You will see the Doone Valley and hear the tale of Lorna Doone. Hear about farming practices from someone who actually worked on many Exmoor farms
