Maritime Mile Heritage Trail

There’s far more to Minehead seafront than sand, sea and sailing - a heritage interpretation trail, open air gallery and augmented reality displays are all just waiting to be discovered.

Download the new Maritime Mile Heritage Trail App and explore further on Apple here and on Android here.

Maritime Mile 1

The Maritime Mile Heritage Trail showcases Minehead’s maritime history, myths and legends. The open-air gallery is at the trail’s central point displaying images and artefacts from Minehead’s past.

It links to the South West Coast Path and England Coast Path - the former starts in Minehead and you’ll find a giant pair of hands holding a map at the official start marker.

Interactive signs featuring augmented reality technology, such as videos and 3D images, are dotted at points of interest along the

Maritime Mile 2

seafront, showcasing facts and historical information about the town.  The open air image gallery includes historic images of the town provided by local people and Minehead Museum to form the centrepiece of the mile and a central gateway to the seafront from The Avenue and West Somerset Railway.  In addtion to the gallery, an App can be downloaded which includes augmented reality making it fun and informative, particularly for children.

The trail has a core theme of ‘find and follow the shells’ and there’s also a downloadable fun quiz for intrepid young explorers to complete and take into the Minehead Tourist Information Centre to exchange for a small prize.

Minehead Tourist Information Centre is located in The Beach Hotel, near West Somerset Railway. Opening hours are: summer - Tues-Sat 10am-4pm & Sun 11am-4pm.  Also, open Bank Holiday Mondays and Mondays in school summer holidays.
